Tranemo 5830 81 Arc Flash Jacket, Class 1, 9.5 cal/cm²

The Tranemo 5830 81 is a flame retardant, hi-vis arc flash jacket in Tranemo’s Tera TX fabric (260 g/m²), certified to IEC 61482-2 Class 1 with an EBT50 arc rating of 9.5 cal/cm². It also carries EN ISO 20471 Class 3 high-visibility certification and EN 1149-5 electrostatic discharge properties, which makes it a practical outer layer for substation switching, overhead line work and general utility duties where you need to be seen and protected at the same time.

Protection Standards and Ratings

One jacket covering several hazards is genuinely useful on site. Rather than layering separate hi-vis and arc-rated garments, the 5830 81 meets the relevant standards in a single certified garment:

Standard Rating
IEC 61482-2 (arc flash) Class 1, EBT50 9.5 cal/cm²
EN ISO 11612 (heat and flame) A1 B1 C1 F1
EN ISO 20471 (high visibility) Class 3
EN 1149-5 (electrostatic) Certified
Fabric Tera TX, 260 g/m²
Sizes XS to 4XL
Colours Yellow/Navy, Yellow/Grey

Features and Everyday Use

Tranemo have clearly thought about how these jackets get worn, not just how they test. The practical details include:

  • Concealed front zip with press studs
  • Vertical chest pockets with zips
  • Side pockets and a sleeve pocket with flap
  • Concealed keyring holder
  • Inside mobile phone pocket and document pockets
  • Adjustable waist and cuffs for a secure fit
  • Contrast stitching

The adjustable waist and cuffs matter more than people expect. A loose cuff is a snag hazard around switchgear, and a jacket that rides up leaves the lower back exposed. Class 1 protection at 9.5 cal/cm² suits many MV and LV switching tasks, but always check the incident energy figure on your own arc flash labels before selecting PPE. If you are unsure, our arc flash studies service will establish what your switchrooms actually require, and the arc flash information hub explains the standards in plain terms.

FAQs

Is the Tranemo 5830 81 suitable for 11 kV switching?

It is rated IEC 61482-2 Class 1 with an EBT50 of 9.5 cal/cm², which covers many MV and LV switching tasks. Suitability depends on the incident energy at your specific switchgear, not the voltage alone. Check your arc flash labels or commissioning study, and select PPE rated at or above that figure.

What sizes and colours are available?

The jacket is available in sizes XS to 4XL, in two colour combinations: yellow/navy and yellow/grey. Both versions carry the same EN ISO 20471 Class 3 hi-vis certification.
