The Tranemo 5451 88 Arc Flash Trousers are flame retardant work trousers in Cantex 1210 fabric, rated ATPV 11.9 cal/cm² to IEC 61482-2 Class 1 for protection against arc flash thermal hazards. A practical choice for authorised persons, utility engineers and contractors working in MV and LV switchrooms.
Tranemo 5451 88 Arc Flash Trousers, Class 1, 11.9 cal/cm²
The Tranemo 5451 88 is a flame retardant, arc-rated work trouser built on Tranemo’s Cantex 1210 fabric at 350 g/m², with an ATPV of 11.9 cal/cm² and certification to IEC 61482-2 Class 1. It is aimed at people who work in and around energised switchgear: authorised persons, utility crews, electrical contractors and maintenance engineers in data centres, pharmaceutical plants and industrial switchrooms.
One detail worth noting. Combined with Cantex underwear garments, the system is approved to IEC 61482-2 Class 2, giving a route to higher protection without a full switching suit. Our arc flash information section explains how incident energy and ATPV relate.

Where It Fits in Your PPE Programme
Class 1 at 11.9 cal/cm² suits a wide range of LV and MV switching and maintenance tasks, but the correct PPE always follows the incident energy assessment for the specific equipment, not a rule of thumb. Browse the wider range in our arc flash protection category, including matching arc flash jackets and trousers to build a full outfit.
FAQs
Can these trousers be used for Class 2 arc flash work?
On their own, no. They are certified to IEC 61482-2 Class 1. However, the manufacturer states that when combined with Cantex underwear garments, the system is approved to IEC 61482-2 Class 2. Contact us if you need the matching underwear layer.
Are these trousers suitable for welding work?
Yes. They carry EN ISO 11611 Class 1 A1+A2 certification for welding and allied processes, alongside the arc flash and heat and flame ratings, so they suit mixed maintenance environments where hot work occasionally takes place.
