The ProGARM 5850 is an anti-static arc flash jacket in lightweight VXS+ inherent flame-resistant fabric (250gsm), certified to IEC 61482-2 with an open-arc rating of EBT50 9.5 cal/cm² and box test Class 1 (4 kA). For authorised persons, utility engineers and industrial electrical teams needing everyday arc-rated protection.
ProGARM 5850 Anti-Static Arc Flash Jacket, 9.5 cal/cm²
The ProGARM 5850 is an arc-rated, anti-static jacket built on ProGARM’s VXS+ inherent woven fabric at 250gsm. Because the flame resistance is inherent to the fibre rather than a surface treatment, it does not wash out over the life of the garment. It is CE certified for arc flash protection to Class 1 with an open-arc rating of EBT50 9.5 cal/cm², which puts it in the everyday-wear bracket for MV and LV switching, maintenance and general substation work rather than high-energy switching, where a full switching suit is the better call.
Standards and Ratings
| Standard | Rating | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| IEC 61482-2 (open arc) | EBT50 = 9.5 cal/cm², ARC 2 | Arc flash thermal protection |
| IEC 61482-1-2 (box test) | Class 1 (4 kA) | Arc flash protection, box method |
| EN 1149-5 | Pt. 5, Pt. 3 charge decay | Electrostatic / anti-static properties |
| EN ISO 11612 | A1, B1, C1 | Flame spread, convective and radiant heat |
| EN ISO 11611 | Class 1, A1 | Welding and allied processes |
The anti-static certification matters in switchrooms and petrochemical environments, where a static discharge is its own ignition hazard. If you are unsure how arc ratings map to the incident energy on your switchgear labels, our guide to what arc flash is is a good starting point.
Design and Practical Features
- Mandarin collar for maximum neck protection
- 5cm flame-resistant anti-static reflective tape, double stitched
- ThermSAFE plastic flame-resistant zip, CE certified
- Zipped chest pocket, flapped side-access pockets and a sleeve phone pocket
- Gas monitor loop and SafetyICON standards label on the arm
- Hook-and-loop cuff tabs for a close fit around the wrist or gloves
- Extended back, Easy-Stretch side panels and adjustable waist straps
- Triple-stitched side seams, backed by ProGARM’s lifetime seam guarantee
Available in navy, sizes S to 4XL. The extended back and stretch panels make it a comfortable everyday layer over arc-rated base layers, and it pairs with matching trousers from our arc flash protection range.
FAQs
Is 9.5 cal/cm² enough for our switchroom?
That depends on the incident energy at each point of work, which comes from an arc flash study, not guesswork. A 9.5 cal/cm² jacket typically covers lower-energy LV and MV tasks. Where calculated incident energy exceeds the garment rating, a higher-rated switching suit is required.
Does the flame resistance wash out over time?
No. The VXS+ fabric is inherently flame resistant, so the protection is built into the fibre and lasts the life of the garment, provided you follow the laundering instructions. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which can compromise anti-static and arc performance.
