The standards stack matters here: EN ISO 14116 Index 3 is the highest flame-spread index in that test, EN 343 3:1 gives the higher waterproofness class, and EN 1149-5 provides the antistatic behaviour electrical installations expect. For the fundamentals, see our arc flash information guide.
Typical use: outdoor switching and inspection at MV and HV substations, overhead line crews, and generator yards where rain is part of the job. Match the garment to the incident energy stated on your arc flash labels before issue.
FAQs
Is Class 1 arc protection enough for our substation tasks?
Only your arc flash study or site label can answer that. Class 1 is the lower of the two box test classes in IEC 61482-2. Where Class 1 is sufficient, this coverall solves the usual problem of wet weather PPE with no arc rating at all.
Can it be worn over everyday workwear?
Yes. It is a full-body rain coverall intended as the outer layer over work clothing, and the coverall itself carries the arc rating. Keep the garments underneath arc rated as well, because the whole ensemble must satisfy the incident energy requirement.
How should we launder the coverall?
Follow the manufacturer care label exactly. Contamination from oils, or incorrect washing, can degrade flame and arc performance. Damaged garments should be withdrawn from service rather than repaired ad hoc.
