The ARC 8 HELMET is an electrically insulated safety helmet with an integrated, fully retractable arc flash face shield rated ATPV 8 cal/cm² to EN 61482-1-2 and GS-ET-29. Class 2 electrical shock protection, tested to EN 397 and EN 50365. For authorised persons and switching staff working on or near energised MV and LV equipment.
ARC 8 Electrically Insulated Safety Helmet with Integrated Arc Flash Face Shield, 8.0 cal/cm²
The ARC 8 HELMET combines an electrically insulating safety helmet with an integrated arc flash face shield in a single unit, giving head, face and chin protection against the thermal hazard of an electric arc at ATPV 8 cal/cm². The polycarbonate shield retracts fully into the helmet when not in use, so it stays protected from scratches between switching operations, and a shaped chin piece closes the gap at the bottom of the visor where arc exposure so often gets in.
Standards and Protection Ratings
The helmet is tested and certified to EN 397 (industrial safety helmets), EN 50365 (electrically insulating helmets) and EN 166 for eye protection, with arc performance verified to EN 61482-1-2 and GS-ET-29. Electrical shock protection is Class 2. The shell is tested for force transmission and apex penetration after conditioning at -18°C and +49°C, plus resistance to flame.

Inspection, Care and Working Life
Inspect the shell, shield, size adjustment and chinstrap before every use. Any crack, scratch, puncture or fogging on the shield means replacement, not continued use. Clean with water and soap only, never solvents, and store the helmet in its transport bag away from heat and sunlight. The 48-month working life runs from the date of manufacture, so check the marked date when issuing helmets. The manufacturer’s warranty is 24 months.
Where It Fits
Suited to MV and LV switching and proving-dead work where an arc flash hazard has been identified and the incident energy sits within 8 cal/cm². Pair it with the rest of your arc flash protection so the whole ensemble matches the study results.
FAQs
Is 8 cal/cm² enough for our switchroom?
That depends on the incident energy at each location, which an arc flash study or risk assessment determines. If calculated energy exceeds 8 cal/cm², you need higher-rated PPE. We can advise on matching protection to your study results.
How long does the helmet last?
The manufacturer states a working life of 48 months from the date of manufacture. Damage, cracks or an arc event mean immediate disposal regardless of age. Inspect before every use.
