The SECRA ARC 24 HELMET is an electrically insulated safety helmet with an integrated, retractable arc flash face shield rated ATPV 24 cal/cm². Class 2 electrical insulation, tested to EN 61482-1-2, EN 397, EN 50365, GS-ET-29 and EN 166, for authorised persons and switching staff working on or near energised substation equipment.
SECRA ARC 24 Electrically Insulated Safety Helmet with Integrated Arc Flash Face Shield
The SECRA ARC 24 HELMET combines an electrically insulating safety helmet with an integrated arc flash face shield rated ATPV 24 cal/cm². It is built for switching, racking and inspection work in MV and HV substations and switchrooms, where head protection against electric shock and face protection against the thermal hazard of an arc flash are both required. The helmet is Class 2 for protection against electrical shock and has an in-use lifetime of up to 48 months from the date of manufacture.
Helmet and Face Shield Features
The polycarbonate face shield carries an anti-fog and anti-scratch coating and retracts fully into the helmet when not in use, protecting it from damage between tasks. A shaped chin piece extends arc protection to the chin. The shield resists high mass, high velocity, drop ball and penetration impacts, fogging and ignition, and filters UV radiation (symbol U6). Arc performance is ATPV 24 cal/cm² with HAF 91%. Head size adjusts stepwise every 2 mm across 53 to 63 cm, with a three-step height adjustment and adjustable chinstrap.
- Force transmission and apex penetration tested after conditioning at -18°C and +49°C
- Resistance to flame
- Class 2 protection against electrical shock
- Slider adjustment for loosening or tightening on the head
- White as standard, other colours on request
Standards and Certification
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| EN 61482-1-2 | Thermal hazards of an electric arc, box test |
| EN 397 | Industrial safety helmets |
| EN 50365 | Electrically insulating helmets for use on low voltage installations |
| GS-ET-29 (7 kA) | Arc-rated face protection |
| EN 166 | Personal eye protection |
The helmet is also in accordance with ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-2014, ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015 and ASTM F2178-12. For context on the ATPV figure, see what is arc flash and the wider arc flash protection range.
Inspection and Service Life
Inspect the shell, head girth regulation and chinstrap before every use. A damaged or dirty helmet or shield must not be used for live working. Clean with water and soap only, store away from heat and sunlight, and dispose of the helmet after any surge, crack or damage.
FAQs
What incident energy does the ARC 24 face shield protect against?
The integrated face shield is rated ATPV 24 cal/cm² to EN 61482-1-2, with HAF 91%. Match this against the incident energy on your arc flash labels before specifying it for a given switchroom.
How long does the helmet last in service?
Up to 48 months from the date of manufacture. Replace it sooner if it suffers a surge, crack or any other damage, and inspect it before every use.
