The BSD Light Protective Arc Flash Shirt is an arc-rated work shirt with Class 1 (APC 1) box-test protection and an ATPV of 8.0 cal/cm² to ASTM F1959. Made from a lightweight, breathable modacrylic blend, it suits electricians, utility staff and maintenance personnel working around energised switchgear.
BSD Light Protective Arc Flash Shirt, Class 1, 8.0 cal/cm²
The BSD Light Protective Arc Flash Shirt is an arc-rated shirt for personnel working on or near energised electrical equipment. It carries Arc Protection Class 1 (APC 1) under the box test of IEC 61482-1-2:2014 and an ATPV of 8.0 cal/cm² tested to ASTM F1959, and it is certified to IEC 61482-2:2018, the clothing standard for protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc. If you are unsure what those ratings mean in practice, our explainer on what arc flash is covers the basics.
Fabric and Comfort
The fabric is a blend of 51% modacrylic, 43% lyocell, 5% aramid and 1% antistatic fibre, at 240 g/m². The flame protection is inherent to the fibres, so it does not wash out. Breathability is a genuine strong point: an RET value of 3.3 m² Pa/W to EN 31092 / ISO 11092 makes it one of the more comfortable arc-rated shirts for warm switchrooms and summer work. The garment is yarn dyed and optimised for industrial washing to ISO 15797.

Where It Fits in Your PPE
An 8.0 cal/cm² shirt suits lower incident-energy tasks, LV switching, panel access, or as a base layer under a higher-rated jacket or switching suit. Always match the garment rating to the incident energy on your arc flash label or study. Browse the full arc flash protection range, including arc flash shirts and polo shirts, if you need a higher rating.
FAQs
Is this shirt arc rated or just flame resistant?
It is arc rated. It has been tested under the IEC 61482-1-2 box test to APC 1 and has an ATPV of 8.0 cal/cm² to ASTM F1959, so it carries a verified arc rating rather than a generic flame-resistant claim.
Is 8.0 cal/cm² enough for MV switching?
That depends on the incident energy at your switchgear, which an arc flash study determines. Many MV switching tasks exceed 8 cal/cm² and call for a higher-rated switching suit. Check your equipment labels or study results before selecting PPE.
