The Survive-ARC® Headgear Kit is a 25 cal/cm² arc-rated face shield, slotted cap bracket and chin protector for electrical workers exposed to arc flash. The light green anti-fog visor gives up to 50% light transmittance, the nylon fittings are dielectric, and the kit is tested to EN 166, EN 170, GS-ET-29 and ASTM F2178. Fits slotted hard hats.
Survive-ARC Headgear Kit, 25 cal/cm²
The Survive-ARC® Headgear Kit from AJ Charnaud is an arc-rated face protection kit with an arc thermal performance value (ATPV) of 25 cal/cm², the threshold for NFPA 70E PPE Category 3. It is made for electrical workers who switch, rack or test energised equipment.
Three parts must be worn together to achieve the rating: the arc-rated face shield, a slotted cap bracket, and a large chin protector that extends coverage over the chin and neck. A dielectric hard hat is not included and is sold separately.

Where it is used
Specified for LV and MV switching in substations and switchrooms, racking circuit breakers, live testing and fault-finding, and utility work where the risk assessment puts the incident energy at or below 25 cal/cm². Wear it with an arc-rated coverall or jacket and trousers from our arc flash protection range. The chin protector and bracket also resist impact, flying fragments, hot sparks and molten metal splash. Care and replacement
- Keep the shield out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
- Do not use it if cracked or broken, or after any arc flash exposure.
- Plan replacement at two years outdoors or three years indoors.
FAQs
Does the kit include a hard hat?
No. The kit is the face shield, slotted cap bracket and chin protector. A dielectric hard hat is sold separately; ask us for the universal bracket if your helmets are not slotted.
Can the face shield be used on its own?
No. The 25 cal/cm² rating applies to the three components worn together. Without the chin protector the lower face and neck are exposed and the tested rating no longer applies.
What does 25 cal/cm² mean in practice?
It is the incident energy the shield can absorb before a second-degree burn becomes likely behind it, measured to ASTM F2178. It matches NFPA 70E PPE Category 3, so it suits Category 3 work.
